Best Low-Calorie Meal Replacement Shakes (2026): 110 to 160 Calories, Ranked

Copied!

Cutting calories is easy. Cutting calories without cutting protein, fiber and micronutrients is the actual engineering problem, and it is where most low-calorie shakes fail. A 110-calorie shake that leaves you hungry in 40 minutes has not saved you anything, because you will eat the difference back and then some. We ranked the low-calorie field on nutrient density per calorie rather than on the calorie number alone.

Why the Lowest Number Is the Wrong Target

The metric that predicts whether a low-calorie shake will actually work for you is protein and fiber per calorie, not calories alone. Protein is the most satiating macronutrient and the most metabolically expensive to digest. Fiber slows gastric emptying and blunts the glucose response. A shake that delivers both efficiently will keep you full on fewer calories. A shake that is simply small will not.

Run the numbers and the ranking reorders itself. 310 Nutrition is the lowest calorie option at 110, but delivers 13.6g of protein per 100 calories. Premier Protein is the highest calorie option here at 160, and delivers 18.8g per 100 calories. On the metric that governs hunger, the "higher calorie" product is the more efficient one.

1. Garden of Life Raw Organic Meal: 130 calories

130 calories carrying 20g of protein and 7g of whole-food fiber is the best nutrient density in this group. The fiber comes from organic flax, chia and sprouted grains rather than an isolated additive, and 7g is enough to make a real difference to how long the shake holds you.

Vitamins use a fermented whole-food matrix, d3 at 50% dv. USDA Organic, no seed oils, no added sugar. For a low-calorie product this is an unusually complete nutritional profile.

At $3.75 per serving it is the most expensive option in this ranking, and the earthy, grain-forward taste divides people. Blending with fruit rather than shaking with water makes a substantial difference.

2. Vega One All-in-One: 140 calories

140 calories, 20g of protein, 4g of fiber, plus a greens blend of kale, spinach, broccoli and spirulina. 30% DV of Vitamin D, which is more than Orgain provides and matters if the shake is replacing a meal regularly. No seed oils, and $2.50 is fair for what is in it.

Worth knowing: the "quinoa sprout" B vitamins in the marketing are synthetic vitamins added during sprouting rather than nutrients naturally present in the quinoa. Better than bare synthetic isolates, not the food-derived sourcing the name suggests.

3. Orgain Organic Nutrition: 150 calories

150 calories with 21g of protein, the highest protein total among the plant-based options here, and zero added sugar. USDA Organic. The B vitamins are genuinely food-derived, sourced from guava, holy basil and lemon, which is the best B vitamin sourcing in this entire ranking.

It drops to third on two counts. Fiber is 1g, so despite the good protein number it does not hold you as long as Garden of Life. And Vitamin D is 0% DV, which is a meaningful gap in a product being used to replace meals. Contains sunflower oil.

The most neutral, easy-drinking taste of anything in this group.

4. 310 Nutrition All-In-One: 110 calories

The lightest shake in the category at 110 calories, with 5g of fiber and zero added sugar. The All-In-One reformulation added 26 disclosed vitamins and minerals, which turned it from a barely-fortified protein powder into a reasonable multivitamin-plus-protein product.

15g of protein is the weakness. At 13.6g per 100 calories it is the least protein-efficient option in this ranking, which limits how well it controls appetite. All vitamin forms are synthetic.

Buy the All-In-One. The original formula is still on sale and has almost no vitamin content.

5. Premier Protein: 160 calories

Purely on protein efficiency, Premier Protein wins this category outright: 30g of protein in 160 calories, or 18.8g per 100 calories, which is the best ratio of any shake we have reviewed at any price. If appetite control is the entire job, this does it better than anything else here.

It ranks fifth because of what comes with it. Sunflower oil, sucralose and acesulfame potassium, conventional dairy protein, an all-synthetic vitamin panel, and only 1g of fiber. It also is not dairy-free. There is an active class-action lawsuit, Rhee v. BellRing, over health claims in its marketing.

Using a Low-Calorie Shake Without Backfiring

  • Replace one meal, not three. At 110 to 160 calories these are not full meals. Three of them puts you near 400 calories a day, which is not sustainable and will cost you muscle.
  • Add fiber if the shake lacks it. Orgain at 1g and Premier at 1g both benefit from half a cup of berries or a tablespoon of chia, which adds 3 to 5g of fiber for very few calories.
  • Blend with water, not juice. Mixing a 130-calorie shake into 120 calories of orange juice defeats the purpose.
  • Watch total protein across the day. If your shake provides 15g, you need the rest of your meals to carry more weight. Under-eating protein while cutting calories is how people lose muscle instead of fat.
  • Check Vitamin D separately. If you are replacing meals daily with a shake that provides 0% DV, that gap compounds.

Frequently Asked Questions

How many calories should a meal replacement have?

For a genuine meal replacement, 300 to 400 calories. Everything in this ranking is a partial meal or a high-protein snack. Huel at 400 calories is the only product we reviewed that is calorically complete as a standalone meal.

Will a 110-calorie shake keep me full?

Not for most people, and not for long. 310 Nutrition at 110 calories with 15g protein and 5g fiber will bridge a couple of hours at best. Pair it with something, or accept it as a snack rather than a meal.

Is Premier Protein the best choice if I only care about protein per calorie?

Yes, on that single metric. 18.8g of protein per 100 calories is unmatched here. Whether the sunflower oil, artificial sweeteners and synthetic vitamins are an acceptable trade is a separate question, and it depends on how often you are drinking it.

Can I use these for intermittent fasting?

Any of them will break a fast, since they all contain protein and calories. They work well as the first meal in an eating window, where the protein and fiber help prevent the overeating that often follows a fast.

Do low-calorie shakes slow your metabolism?

Replacing one meal a day will not. Aggressive whole-day calorie restriction over long periods can reduce resting energy expenditure and cost lean mass, which is why adequate protein matters more the lower you take your calories.

Bottom Line

Garden of Life Raw Organic Meal at 130 calories delivers the most complete nutrition per calorie: 20g protein, 7g whole-food fiber, fermented vitamins, organic, no seed oils. It is the best low-calorie shake if you want the calorie savings without the nutritional compromise.

If appetite control alone is the goal and ingredient quality is secondary, Premier Protein at 30g protein per 160 calories is the most efficient product in the category. If you want the absolute lowest calorie count, 310 Nutrition All-In-One at 110 gets you there, but expect to be hungry sooner.
